The Csodaszarvas, MFA Graduate Thesis Project
The projected essence of the Csodaszarvas is this unattainable object that is the function of the mythology of the pursuit, rather than a personality in itself. In this way, the symbol of the White Stag is a semiological myth, a signifier that is at the same time meaning and form, full on one side and empty on the other. A myth in this sense is a function of language, a language robbery if you will, that takes a hold of a sign, hollows it out and infuses its own meaning into the empty shell. Like a succubus, the myth draws its nourishment from the historicity of the sign and through this sheep’s clothing, the wolf is able to impart its own concept.
