Therefore, while history cannot basically modify the structure of an archaic symbolism, it continually adds and co-opts meanings and layers contexts into those symbols, so that the semiological myth can usurp those meanings and create its own concepts to add to the fray. It is this rich contextual history we deal with whenever we use a symbol, and by using it ourselves, we add yet another contextual element into the general orgy of meaning.
