Avalokitesvara is the bodhisattva of compassion. Here, compassion means truly listening not just with our goddess-given ears, but with the ears of our animal kin and our more than human ears as well. And we listen to what the world around us has to say. She is listening to a Texas Warbler, an endangered songbird, intently, openly, and fully. What would we learn if we could not only open ourselves to listening like this not just to one another, but the world around us as well?
